Again, Benue NUJ Chairman Is Dead

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Victoria Asher is dead.

Comrade Asher died on Saturday morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi after a Ceasarean Section (C/S) surgery.

A statement issued by the State Secretary of the NUJ, Moses Akarhan, said the council will give notice for an emergency congress to that effect in due course.

SWITCH NIGERIA recalls that Asher’s death comes less than four years since the union lost its then Chairman,  David Ukuma in 2018 after a brief illness.

In a related development, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed shock over the passage of the NUJ state boss, Asher.

Ortom, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Terver Akase.

He said the death of Asher was “a painful loss not only to the media community but to the entire state.”

He described the late NUJ Chairman as a hardworking woman who related well with others and stood for excellence in her profession.

The governor stated that the government and people of Benue would miss Asher’s contributions to the state.

He prayed God to grant her eternal rest and give her husband, the family and colleagues, particularly the Benue State Council of NUJ, the strength to bear the loss.
