A former Ivorian international and Chelsea football club legend, Didier Drogba, has disclosed that he and his Malian born wife, Lalla Diakite, have gone their separate ways.
The ex-footballer, 42, met Lalla in the late 1990s in Paris and they tied the knot in 2011.
The Ivorian legend had previously maintained a discreet private life as he tried to shield his loved ones from the limelight.
However, Drogba made the news of his separation public, after saucy images of him and an unknown woman in bed started circulating on the internet.
The former African footballer of the year wrote on Instagram: “I’m not in the habit of discussing my private life.
“But, because of speculation in the media today, I can confirm that sadly, after 20 years together, Lalla and I took the difficult decision to separate last year.
“We remain very close, and our main priorities have been to protect our children and our family’s private life. May God bless you,” he concluded.
Drogba enjoyed a successful career with Chelsea, winning four Premier League titles, four FA cups, three League cups and the Champions League in 2012.
As the talisman and the all time highest goal scorer of the Ivorian national team, Drogba was instrumental to the team qualifying for its first ever FIFA World Cup, held in Germany in 2006.
