One of the black boxes from the plane that crashed in Indonesia on Saturday has been recovered.
On Saturday, a Sriwijaya Air Jetliner carrying 62 passengers crashed just four minutes after takeoff.
Officials are hoping the black box will give more information about the cause of the crash that had about 62 passengers on board.
While on live TV, Budi Karya Sumadi, Indonesia’s Transport Minister, disclosed that the box had been found -after the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 plunged about 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) in less than a minute before slamming into the Java Sea on Saturday.
However, the search is still on as divers continue to scavenge the deep waters for the voice recorder that is found in the pilot’s cockpit.
It is still nor clear why the plane crashed just four minutes after take-off, but officials are hoping that data stored on the black box- which normally contains information about the speed, altitude, direction and conversations between crew members- will give them a better understanding of what happened.
According to aviation experts, information on a black box can explain up to 90% of all crashes.
