Arrested Robbers Confess they Burnt Police Stations and Looted Shops in Benin During #EndSARS Protests

A bunch of robbers were arrested in Oka 4, around First Page Hotel in Upper Sakponba, Benin City, by joint efforts of men of the local Vigilante group and the Joint Taskforce from Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

It was gathered that two suspects were arrested when the JTF received a tip-off on that fateful day.

When grilled by the Police, the suspects confessed that they looted shops in Benin and also burnt police stations while the #EndSARS protests lasted.

It can be recalled that during the period of the protests, Idogbo Police Post, Ugbekun and the Saviour and Dumez Police station were burnt.

A source told Punch that, “I must commend members of the public, who gave us the information that led to the arrest of the suspects. We moved in with the JTF as soon as we got the information and it is good that they (suspects) were arrested.”

“Hopefully, their arrest will serve as a deterrent to others, who are planning to carry out robberies in the state. The suspects confessed that they masterminded the breaking into shops and burning of police stations in Upper Sakponba during the #EndSARS demonstrations last year.”
