No fewer than 554 police constables have been hired by the Katsina State Government to kick start the state’s community policing program.
It was gathered that the officers were trained at the Police College Kaduna.
The Katsina State Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba, in his Wednesday address, charged the officers to discharge their duties to the latter, and do all they can to maintain peace in their places of primary assignment.
The new police constables will however not wield guns, but will adorn the normal black police kits and name tags, with the badge resting on a blue background.
“He (The police commissioner) stated that as they will go back to their respective communities to help in reducing crime,” the statement released by the State Police Command said.
Other states like Kaduna and Cross River, are also recruiting trained community police constables to aid in bringing peace and arresting crime in those areas.
