Kankara Boys: Buhari has Demonstrated Capacity to Protect Nigerians- Shehu

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has said the rescue and safe return of all 344 boys kidnapped from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, is a clear demonstration that the President Mohammadu Buhari administration has the capacity to protect Nigerians.

Shehu said, although the Nigerian military do not always get the accolades they deserve, the rescue of the boys has once again shown their professionalism and ability to deliver at the big stage, saying it holds hope that Nigerian citizens can feel safe wherever they are.

He stated this in a statement on his media handles on Sunday.

According to the Senior Media Assistant, the excellent performance of the security personnel in rescuing the boys without any incident, is an indication that the terrorists have lost the battle with the military, adding that the terrorists can run but can no longer hide, especially as the momentum now lies with our forces.

“The terrorists have lost the lead narrative with the military and our security personnel’s excellent performance in rescuing the boys without any incident. They can run, but they can no longer hide. The momentum now lies with our forces, and one should expect a new push against violent forces and their sponsors.”

On the level of solidarity shown by Nigerians while the boys were in captivity, Shehu said Nigerians have shown that in moments of national grief, they are truly their brother’s keepers and the events of the last few days have clearly demonstrated the fact.

He condemned those who wanted to use the misfortune to their advantage, saying it was unnecessary, shameful and despicable.

“This is hugely shameful. These scavengers should now be honourable enough to refund the monies they have so far collected for the now futile campaign to discredit their fatherland,” Shehu stated.
