The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has advised that Nigerians need not to despair over their National Identification Number, NIN, whenever they needed to make use of it, as they can now use their registered GSM number to dial *346# at the cost of ₦20 to get details containing their NIN. This was announced by the commission on Friday 27th November 2020 by the Commission.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in August this year, ordered the transfer of the Commission to the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, a Ministry spearheaded by the sterling and brilliant Isah Ali Ibrahim (Pantami). This move is expected to boost the supervision and streamlining of the activities of the Commission, along with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, the Nigerian Communications Satellite, NIGCOMSAT, the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, and Galaxy Backbone; towards the Federal Government’s digital transformation policy.
Since the relocation of the Commission, there have been some innovative solutions to challenges facing the Commission. There are concerted efforts to make the National ID downloadable and printable to owners, thereby reducing the challenge of providing means to print at the hands of the Commission. Also, there are plans to integrate all identity databases into one secure and reliable database. Hence, the new resolve by the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure every licence to carry the owner’s NIN.
When you are in need of your NIN at any point and time, you are enjoined to dial *346# to retrieve your NIN.
