Man U Shocks PSG as Chelsea Draws at Home|A Roundup of UEFA Champions League

Yesterday 20th October 2020 the group stage of the season’s UEFA Champions League campaign commenced, and the highlights of the night was that Manchester United FC produced a surprise performance to decimate the highly talented Paris Saint Germain football club in France by 2-1 scoreline to begin their Champions League campaign for the 2020/2021 season on a bright note. An away win in Paris for the Red Devils was not anticipated by analysts and bookmakers, but a determined cameo by substitute Paul Pogba was enough to give the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side the precious three points.

FC Barcelona, despite being reduced to ten men after Gerrard Pique was sent off, cruised to a 5-1 win over visitors Ferencvaros. The hosts took the lead via a Lionel Messi penalty in the 27th minute, before the seventeen-year-old sensation Ansu Fati, made it 2-0 before the two minutes before the halftime. Just five minutes into the second half, Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho made it 3-0. Then Gerrard Pique was sent off after 67 minutes and the visitors were awarded a penalty, which midfielder Ihor Kharatin converted for the visitors in the 70th minute.

But Barca’s substitutes ensured a comfortable end to the game as seventeen year old Pedri scored via an Osmane Dembele pass and the 23-year-old Dembele himself made it 5-1 final score with a goal in the 89th minute.

In the other match in the group G, Juventus endured a positive start to their Champions League campaign by winning 2-0 away at Dynamo Kyiv with a brace from Álvaro Morata.

In group F, Borussia Dortmund were poor on the night as they lost 3-1 to Lazio of Italy despite the goalscoring form of their Norwegian youngster, 20 year old Erling Haaland. Ciro Immobile was rampant for Lazio and had put his club ahead after just five minutes. Marwin Hitz, the Dortmund goalkeeper, was forced to put the ball in his own net by the 23rd minute after consistent pressures from the Lazio forwards. Haaland had given the German visitors hope after 70 minutes as he pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 but substitute Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro scored within five minutes to restore Lazio’s two-goal lead and the game ended 3-1 for the hosts.

The other group F match between Zenit St. Petersburg of Russia and Club Brugge of Belgium ended 1-2 in favour of the visitors, with goals from youngster Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis and Ketela. Zenit’s goal was an own-goal by the Brugge goalkeeper.

Chelsea FC forced Sevilla of Spain to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge in London in group E as Krasnodar FC forced Rennes to a 1-1 draw in the other match of the group.

Bruno Fernandes had in the 23rd minute put Manchester United ahead in the match against PSG, and of course it is from the penalty spot. But United winger Anthony Martial inadvertently put the ball in his own net in the 55th minute. But Marcus Rashford scored on the 87th minute from a Paul Pogba pass to earn the Manchester club a precious, and indeed inspirational victory in the French capital.
