A video has been shared on social media purported to be that of gruesome murders of at least eight residents of Oleh town in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. It is believed to be a result of the communal clash between the towns of Oleh and Ozoro concerning a dispute over land.
The viral video shows nine bodies including that of younger ones, men and women, lying beside a small path, most of them seemingly hacked to death with machetes or axe.
The #EndSARS protest may have been dominating news all week, hence the less airtime accorded to this sad development by the mainstream media.
Communal clash in Nigeria has always been a big menace to the security of the country. It appears that the incidence of communal clashes in especially the southern part of Nigeria receives less attention and public outcry compared to the northern part.
Land dispute has contributed to most bloody communal clashes within Nigeria. With the increasing population and the accompanying urban expansion, indigenes strive to lay claim to their lands and in many instances serious misunderstanding ensue and culminate in broad communal confrontations.
