The Senegalese international football forward who plies his trade with Liverpool FC, Sadio Mané, has become the latest English Premier League player to have his sample return positive for COVID-19. This was announced by the club on Friday evening 2nd October 2020 and follows the news of new signing Thiago Alcantara testing positive to the virus three days ago. Both players, according to the club, will do the required protocol of self-isolation for the required period of two weeks while they undergo treatment, before a second test after fourteen days.
“Like with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool are – and will continue to – following all protocols relating to Covid-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required period of time.” Liverpool said on their website
The Senegalese talisman has been pivotal in the recent form of the Merseyside club, scoring three times in three Premier League matches, including a goal against Arsenal Football Club on Monday, 28th September 2020, a match Liverpool FC deservedly won 3 – 1.
Mané will therefore miss the match at Aston Villa on Sunday, 4th October 2020, before the International Break.
Sadio Mané is among the nominees for best Premier League player for the month of September.
The Premier League had announced on Monday that 10 people tested positive to COVID-19. It is not clear if Thiago Alcantara was among the numbers. Mané has come in close contact with some teammates and opponents and there are fears that more players may have contacted the virus through him.
