Kutasa Community: Hongao Staff Arraigned in Court, Remanded in Custody

Moses Smart Osita and Ezeilo Stanley, two of the staff of the Hongao Mining Company Limited who broke the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA’s seal of closure placed on the company’s facilities in Kutasa Community, near Karshi, Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have been arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force, before an Upper Area Court Grade I, Mpape, Bwari Area Council, FCT.

Osita and Ezeilo Stanley were charged with Obstruction of Civil Servants in the Discharge of their Lawful Duties; and Resisting Arrest and Assault on Public Servants.

They were arrested by the police after destroying the seal placed on Hongao Mining company by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA.

Both Moses Smart Osita and Ezeilo Stanley will remain in custody pending the deliberation on their bail conditions.

Recall that Switch Nigeria reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria has closed the facilities of Hongao Mining Company Limited in a community in Abuja for polluting the water sources of Kutasa and surrounding communities with unhealthy and unapproved mining activity. NESREA had after a collaborated investigations into the allegations of water pollution, shut down the facilities of the company in the community. But several staff of the company broke into the facility and two of them were arrested while the rest are still at large.
