FG Approves $1.9 Billion for Construction of Rail Track to Link Nigeria and Niger Republic

The sum of $1,959,744,723.71 has been approved by the Federal Executive Committee (FEC), for the construction of a rail line that will link Nigeria with neighbouring Niger Republic.

The FEC meeting which was held today, Wednesday, was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Rotimi Amaechi, who is the Minister of Transport said after the meeting that the sum is inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).

He further said the council also approved the award of a contract worth N3.049 billion for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of one railway crane for the purposes of clearing rail tracks in situations of accidents.

The proposed railway project will link Kano-Dutse-Katsina-Jibia to Maradi in Niger Republic.
