Three suspected men have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command in connection with child trafficking, while a two-month-old baby allegedly sold out by the traffickers at Igbodo community in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, has also been rescued.
It was gathered that the baby was rescued after an alarm raised by one Kelvi Anyia of Qushi Quarters in Onicha-Ugbo Community that his 20-year-old girlfriend, Ogechi Godwin, gave birth to a baby boy and sold the child out to an unknown person. He stated that his girlfriend lied to him that the baby died and was thrown into a pit toilet.
It was then that the police quickly moved in to nab the suspect, who later confessed that she had sold the baby to one Ifeoma at Umunede community with the consent of another lady by the name Nkiru.
Otunji Isioma and one Chukwuekwu Elemelu were also arrested by the police in connection with the trafficking of the boy child, who was later rescued at Nkiru’s residence where he was abandoned.
Mohammed Inuwa who is the State Police Commissioner confirmed the incident to newsmen via text, “The case is under investigation. Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects,” the CP stated.
