Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Eleme – Oyigbo – Tai Federal Constituency, Chisom Promise Dike, has officially left People’s Democratic Party PDP, and defected to the All Progressives Congress APC. Honourable Dike was alleged to have rejected the gift of exotic SUVs presented to the members of the National Assembly from the State, by the governor Barrister Nyesom Wike without malice, citing the deplorable state of the roads in Oyigbo Local Government Area as one of his main reasons, while he appealed to the State and Federal Governments to come to the rescue of the roads in his Constituency.
The news of the lawmaker’s rejection of the car gift was greeted with cheers by people of his Constituency. One Mayor Ubani, an indigene of the affected LGA, praised his decision thus: “I appreciate and commend this gesture as words are few to extend my humble thanks to him for speaking up for us. The Governor has abandoned and forsaken the Oyigbo people.”
The news of the rejection may not have gone down well with the Rivers PDP.
It appeared that the lawmaker may have received threats and warnings from his fellow party stalwarts, and he was required to declare that he was not offered or presented any car gift in the first place, on live radio programme in Port Harcourt, capital city of Rivers State.
Chike’s first contribution as member of the Federal House of Representatives was to move a Motion for the thorough investigation of the fire outbreak on the NNPC pipeline in Kom Kom and lzuoma communities of Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Dike’s confrontations with Governor Wike’s stooges is not new. It was alleged that one Kenneth Gbali who was once CTC Chairman of Oyigbo LGA, along with the Publicity Chief of Governor Wike’s Patriotic Network (WPN); and a group of which Ambassador Desmond Akawor is leader in company of some group of boys, set the car of Honourable Chisom Promise Dike (then member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, RSHA, Oyigbo State Constituency) ablaze at Afam in April 2018 for having disagreement with them in an intraparty matter.
Regardless, under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Dike contested for the Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai Federal Constituency of Rivers State in the February 2019 General Elections into the National Assembly and was declared winner by the INEC.
Premium Times had in 2015 after the state and general elections, made an article about beneficiaries of Yar’adua Amnesty Programme for Niger Delta militants, and alleged that most of the ex-militants had become PDP politicians, winning seats in the Niger Delta states.
Although, Dike is not an ex-militant, he was alleged to have been linked to Ateke Tom, an ex militant. Dike had won an election to the seat of Oyigbo State Constituency in the Rivers House of Assembly, under the aegis of PDP.
