3 IPOB Members, 2 DSS Officers Die After a Clash in Enugu
3 members of the proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and 2 security agents of the Department of State Services (DSS), in a Sunday clash, died in Emene, Enugu State.
DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, some hours after the event said: “The Service lost two personnel in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team.”
The first IPOB member.
“The Service hereby condoles with families of the departed officers and also prays for the repose of their souls. We lost two of our men and that is because they were not given instructions to fire at the group when they got there.”
“When instructions came for them to defend themselves, it was already late as the two officials were already dead.”
The second IPOB member.
A source close to the DSS said that the security agents had gone on a raid on Sunday morning in the area when they were attacked by machete-wielding IPOB men.
However, the IPOB countered this, saying the group was holding a peaceful meeting at St. Patrick’s Community School, the venue of the attack.
The third IPOB member.
“We are peaceful and not fighting any war. We have recovered three dead bodies and many sustained injuries while trying to escape from security men,” Nzekwe Ugonna, IPOB’s spokesman said.
Ugonna added that about 15 members of the group were also arrested.
