International Airports in Lagos and Abuja are set to resume on the 29th of August, 2020 according to the honourable Minister for Aviation, Dr Hadi Sirika. The Minister announced this this evening 17th August 2020. He said, “Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020. Beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience.”
This announcement will come as a big relief for Nigerians whose family have been away in the diaspora and were unable to return due to the restrictions on exit flights to and from Nigeria. Also, many whose place of work are abroad but were within the country before the lockdown and flight restrictions commenced, will heave a sigh of relief.
The Federal Government of Nigeria had in the month of March this year restricted all international flights to Lagos and Abuja after the the Senate also recommended same.
A visit to the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja two weeks ago by our correspondent showed that there were skeletal activities at the international part of the Airport, with relatively few people and very few staff around.
Further details soon.
