On Saturday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed and that of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi paid supervisory visit to the construction site of the Lagos/Ibadan railway project.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the 156km rail track is finished.
Before leaving for Ibadan via the newly acquired trains, the Ministers also supervised the Ebute Metta train station, the Apapa Dockyard station and bulk terminal at the Apapa port in Lagos.
In order to do away with the long vehicular qeues on the roads in Apapa, the Federal Government is linking the Apapa and Tin Can Ports to the new rail tracks.
The Lagos-Ibadan rail project is the first double-track standard gauge modern railway in West Africa.
The second phase of the Lagos-Kano Railway Modernisation Project is being constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) an affiliate of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC).
