The Arsenal Twitter admin chose to be spectacular as the announcement of their new signing, Willian Borgess was done exactly by the 14th second of the 14th minute of the 14th hour of the 14th day of August, 2020, after having defeated Willian’s former employers, Arsenal’s London derby rivals Chelsea Football Club on the 1st of August which was two weeks ago, to lift their record 14th FA Cup at the Wembley Stadium in London. Willian, in his first interview after the announcement, said that he is happy to make the decision as he was attracted by the new Arsenal Project being spearheaded by the club’s new head coach, Mikel Arteta. The Brazilian international football forward player said, “They have a new project with Mikel Arteta. I think this club deserves to shine again and I want to be a part of this project – to be a part of the Arsenal family is amazing.”
Willian has signed a contract believed to be worth about £200,000 per week wage for three years. He had declined to extend his contract with Chelsea FC, a contract which expired a few days ago.
Willian joined Chelsea Football Club from the Russian club Anzhi Makachkala in 2013 and has been pivotal in the club winning both the Premier League and the Europa League.
Since the advent of the Premier League, Willian is the eleventh player to play for both Arsenal and Chelsea. Willian is the sixth player signing for Arsenal directly from Chelsea, while Giroud is the fifth player to move directly from Arsenal to Chelsea since 1992/1993.
Arsenal’s Spanish head coach, Mikel Arteta, says he hopes that Willian has a great influence on the young forward players at the club, like Bukayo Saka, Reis Nelson, Joe Willock, Emile Smith-Rowe, Edward Nketiah, and his Brazilian compatriot Gabriel Martinelli, same way David Luiz did on the young defenders in the club.
