FG Grants Forklift Girl-Mechanic Scholarship to Study Engineering

The Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has reached out to the teenage female forklift technician, identified as Kehinde Esther Popoola, to grant her scholarship to study in any tertiary institution of her choice. Esther, who is a student of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Secondary School, Ojodu, was spotted by a positive minded citizen who begged his daughter to help post the video of the girl which he filmed, to solicit for help from well-meaning Nigerians to avail her with assistance to further her education. He had spotted the Senior Secondary School Two (SS 2) student at a forklift workshop in Okota.

We had reported that a middle-aged man had filmed a teenager somewhere on the mainland of Lagos, repairing forklift. The social media posts by the man’s daughter received lots of attention which helped to make the video by her father go viral with more than a million views already. Many citizens have shown interest in supporting her financially, and on Monday, 27th July 2020, the Minister for Youth and Sports Development, replied to the tweet of the daughter of the man twice, first asking her for the name and contact details of the girl, then dropping his own telephone number on a tweet to show his seriousness.

The Minister, on Monday replied, “This is HM. Youth and Sports. Please send her name and number. We will get her a scholarship.”

Esther works under the tutelage of an engineer by name Mr Adebayo Maruf at Classic Bonded Terminal in Okota where she works as a technician repairing forklifts.

The girl had told in the video that she is keen to study engineering in the university after her secondary school final examinations.
