The Ministerial Task Force on the National Stadium Surulere on Tuesday, 21st July 2020 submitted the comprehensive report on the National Stadium Surulere. The report is on audit of the tenanted facilities in the stadium, ranging from open grounds, stalls, shops, and offices.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, on Tuesday disclosed that the Ministry has received the report of the Ministerial Task Force. He declared that the Ministry will swiftly move into action to implement the recommendations of the Task Force. He also promised that the recommendations will be implemented in a just, fair and firm manner in line with the law and the master plan.

Due to the sorry state that the stadium was in, the Federal Government had set up a taskforce to make an inventory and audit records about the people who have rented spaces and offices inside the complex.

There were claims and allegations of mismanagement of the complex. And the continuous dilapidation of sections of the stadium, as well as nonchalant care of the facilities, has compelled the Federal Government to look into the case of the Stadium Complex.

The Federal Government is looking to minimise waste of national facilities in all sectors, and harness their economic and financial potentials. If put into judicious use, the National Stadium Surulere could generate substantial income for the Federal Government. The Teslim Balogun Stadium, which is just across the Western Avenue road from the National Stadium Surulere, is a contrast to the National Stadium in terms of facility management and use. The Teslim Balogun Stadium is owned by the Lagos State Government.
