The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday disclosed that 102 local government areas in 28 states across the country will be affected by flood.
Director-General of NEMA, Muhammadu A Muhammed revealed this in a statement.
Amongst the high risk locations, the DG listed Kaura and Zaria local government areas in Kaduna state.
According to him the yearly seasonal rainfall prediction (SRP) and annual flood outlook (AFO) released by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) predicted the floods in June.
Muhammed called on the state emergency management agencies to be prepared to evacuate communities when the floods hit.
He also advised governments to sensitize the resident on the alert.
“That refuse, weeds, water hyacinths should be removed from drainages, water channels and all avenues for river run-offs so as to allow free flow of flood waters,” the director-general said.
