After about three weeks, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has recovered from the deadly Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
Commissioner for Health in the state, John Okiyi Kalu, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday.
Kalu said Ikpeazu, after several tests conducted on him by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) returned negative on Friday, was certified negative.
He said “To the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, 2nd July, 2020, returned negative result on Friday, 3rd July, 2020.
“Governor Ikpeazu is therefore deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organization (WHO).”
Recall that the state government, had on June 8th, announced that Ikpeazu had tested positive for the virus.
He was subsequently, transferred to the FCT, where he was managed by a health by a team of medical practitioners.
