The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Umahi, has tested positive to COVID-19. This was announced this afternoon, July 4th, 2020. He is asymptomatic, meaning that he does not exhibit any sign of the symptoms of the COVID-19, but still, has duly handed reins of administration to Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, his deputy while isolating himself in obedience to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC guideline.

The state of Ebonyi has had her own substantial battle with cases of COVID-19, which is 438 as at yesterday’s report. Far more than Imo or Abia, or even Bayelsa. No cases were reported for the state yesterday, however. But with the breaking of this news, there may be more than one case to report tonight, the governor’s inclusive.

As the news of the result of his test breaks, plenty of well wishes have already poured, as the governor of Ebonyi is one of the few who relate well across party, geopolitical, or ethnic divides.

Lauretta Onochie, one of President Buhari’s aide and staunch supporters, has already expressed her prayers for his recovery, saying “Our prayers and thoughts are with him and family.”
