The Chief of Staff to governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Noel Dongjur, has tested positive to COVID-19.
According to a statement by the state’s commissioner for Information, Mr. Dan Manjang, the result of the Chief of Staff returned positive after Governor Lalong had during the July 1st, 2020 EXCO meeting directed all the members of the state’s Executive Council to go for COVID-19 test.
The statement explained further that only the result of the Chief of Staff returned positive, saying he has since commenced treatment at one of the isolation centres in Jos, the State capital, while members of his family and other contacts are being traced and tested.
According to the commissioner, “the Chief of Staff who is in high spirits urges prayers from members of the public and also encourages people to submit to COVID-19 testing which is very important in unveiling cases and leading to treatment.”
Mr. Manjang also explained that personal aides of the Governor, Permanent Secretaries, heads of parastatals as well as other senior civil servants in the state have conducted the test and are awaiting the results.
In the meantime, Governor Lalong has. continued to admonish residents of the state to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued to curtail the virus.
