The National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has ratified the recent decisions taken by the National Working Committee (NWC), including the concluded primaries which produced Pastor Ize-Iyamu as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the elections slated for later this year.
The National Executive Council, NEC, approved all the recommendations by the President and leader of the party, Muhammadu Buhari. The president suggested are that all litigations concerning the party and the members of the party, be stopped. He also advised that the primary election in Edo that produced Pastor Ize-Iyamu, be ratified. He suggested that a caretaker Committee be set up with a chairman, and a timeframe for national convention be deliberated by the committee.
The establishment of the caretaker committee has effectively killed the speculation that Victor Giadom would become the chairman of the party. This by effect, means that Giadom was only the Acting Chairman for less than a day, after the president, Muhammau Buhari had admitted yesterday that the laws were in favour of the Rivers State chief as the person to take the responsibility of standing in for the suspended chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
Honourable Giadom, who also presided over the meeting, said that he will wholeheartedly agree with the decisions by the NEC. He said, “My Take on the outcome of today’s APC NEC meeting: I had earlier said that the collective decision of the entire NEC will prevail in today’s meeting. I also promised to stand by any decision decided.” He added, “Finally, there is No Victor, No Vanquished. The togetherness and cohesion of our great party has always been our prayers.”
The chairman of the caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, said that the decisions were taken in good faith, that no one is being targeted or maligned. He said all decisions are for the sake of the image of the party.
This could well still play in the favour of the embattled Oshiomhole, as indications from Edo State where his constituents are, is that he has their support. There is a good chance that the suspension on him will be lifted in the coming weeks. However, the fact that he will return as the National Chairman of the APC, is out of the possibilities, because an acting chairman in the person of Governor Mai Mala Buni from Yobe, has been appointed and his task will be to drive the party safely towards a national convention before the end of the year.
