FG Disengages 500, 000 N-Power Beneficiaries, To Enrol New Batch

About 500, 000 N-Power beneficiaries have been disengaged by the Federal Government.

This was what the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq said on Friday, adding that the Batch A and B N-Power beneficiaries will exit the scheme June 30 and July 31 respectively.

Batch A kicked off their programme back in December 2016, and were supposed to be in it for 24 months, but ended up staying on for about 40 months. The Batch B, however started their’s August 2018.

The statement also said that the Federal Government has began transitioning the beneficiaries exiting the programme into different entrepreneurship schemes.

“We have commenced the transitioning of beneficiaries from Batches A & B into government entrepreneurship schemes and engaging private sector bodies to absorb some of the beneficiaries after the completion of psychometric assessment to determine competency and placement into various opportunities.”

Consequently, a new batch is to be enrolled forthwith.

“The Federal government is committed to the continuation and expansion and as such will now begin enrolment and onboarding of a new Batch of beneficiaries.”

“In view of these, the Ministry has announced that Batch A will exit June 30, 2020 and Batch B will exit the programme on July 31, 2020.”

She, however, said nothing about the 3 months outstanding stipends being owed some beneficiaries.

  1. The development is a welcomed one, but the implementation is wrong. It’s a misplacement of priority at this moment where a lot of volunteers are anticipating for more. It’s so pathetic that even they cannot even define what “entrepreneurship” they are transiting volunteers into and what is the plan for ensuring continuous payment and permanency? She talked about absorption from the private sector…what happened to the government sector?!
