Resident Doctors Embark on Indefinite Nationwide Strike

The National Association Resident Doctors (NARD) have gone on an indefinite nationwide strike.

The Associations president, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba disclosed this to newsmen on Monday, during a press conference held in Abuja.

Sokomba said the decision to embark on the strike was due to the series of meetings between the doctors and the Federal Government in the last two weeks, which have all failed to yield tangible results.

Dr. Sokomba reiterated that, all its members attending to COVID-19 patients in different isolation centres across the country are to heed this directive with immediate effect.

According to the president of the Association, the strike action seeks to protest ,amongst other things, the non-payment of special allowances for the resident doctors, the deplorable state of hospitals and the lack of protective equipment for members of the union treating COVID-19 patients.

This, Dr. Sokomba said, has resulted to the death of some of its members.
