“One of the most important virtues in life is LOYALTY. Never bite the finger that fed you. Obaseki has learnt this lesson the hard way. I have known Oshiomole for years. He is a formidable adversary, a skillful fighter and a tough cookie. Obaseki could never have outmanouvered him.” Says Femi Fani-Kayode, popularly called FFK. The former Minister for Aviation has since the latter part of 2014 been a consistent bitter critic of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as its Federal Government since June 2015. But this latest statement will not go down well with his teeming fans, especially on the social media. Neither will the spokesman for People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and her national chairman, take this sporadic honesty lightly.
The comment is coming on the back of the events surrounding the primary elections in Edo State, as reported by Switch Nigeria this afternoon. The news came late afternoon today that Obaseki and two others have been disqualified from the APC primary election towards the gubernatorial election later this year.
There has been a tug of war between the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the executive governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, which has taken long and gotten worse, despite efforts by several influential persons to make them put away their differences. It detoriarated to the extent that the governor colluded with some forces in the state branch of the APC, to suspend the national chairman. Also, Oshiomhole suffered threats and attacks by thugs on different accounts. The governor a few months ago, appeared on television to say that the national chairman of the APC visited Edo State without informing him who is the chief security officer of his own state. It was sequel to information that the roads leading to the house of Oshiomhole were barricaded and the front of his house blocked by a trash clearing truck.
The relationship between the incumbent governor and Oshiomhole, who preceded him and served as governor for eight years and dismantled the stronghold of corrupt political elites on the affairs of the State, looks irredeemably shattered.
Adams Oshiomhole, who was also a tough as nails leader of the Nigerian Labour Congress, has true to Fani-Kayode’s observation, faced many tall challenges and came out victorious. Part of which is the leaders of the 8th Assembly of the legislative arm of government whom he vowed he would see their demotion; the end of Bukola Saraki’s stranglehold on Kwara State administration, the coalition against the candidacy of Buhari for the 2019 presidential election where retired generals and Obasanjo, as well as many prominent politicians, swore to defeat, but to no avail, and others.
