The doubt and controversy surrounding authenticity of the university certificate of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has finally been laid to rest following the the confirmation by the University of Ibadan (UI) that the governor graduated from the institution.
Recall that National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had on Tuesday, doubted the authenticity of Obaseki’s UI certificate and asked the party’s screening committee for the party’s primary election for the Edo governorship election, to verify it from the university.
The university management made the confirmation in a statement issued by its Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi O Faluyi, on Wednesday.
The statement read, “Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State graduated from the University of Ibadan where he studied Classics.
“Obaseki gained admission to the University in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
“Records of his Admission and Graduation are intact in the archives of the University.”
Both Obaseki and his predecessor Oshiohmole are from Edo.
They fell out with each other last year and have since become political “enemies”
All efforts to reconcile the duo by both the APC and Aliko Dangote proved abortive.
