Six staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Headquarters in Port Harcourt have tested positive to COVID-19. Following the news of the demise of the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Chief Ibanga Bassey Etang; the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio gave a swift directive to the Management and staff of the Headquarters of the Commission to close down activities and exercise self-isolation for the sake of precaution, as he suspected that the death of the director Etang could as a result of COVID-19.
We had reported that Etang died of COVID-19 but the Commission later came out with a press statement warning against insinuations, stating that they were not aware of what was the cause of the man’s death yet. However, the results of the autopsy as well as the screening by NCDC, showed that Etang was indeed COVID-19 positive and he may have died due to the complications. Here is how we reported it.
The 33 staff members screened are working in the Office of the Executive Director (Projects), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh. The six who tested positive have been moved to quarantine. However, Dr Ojougboh himself, miraculously, tested negative.
More details soon.
