Immediate past former First Lady of Lesotho, Maesaiah Thabane has been arrested on Wednesday, for the murder of a previous wife to her husband, former President Thomas Thabane, Lesotho Police said.
The country’s appeal court revoked her bail last week, contending that her bail was improperly granted.
Thabane was transferred to the court, where she wore a fur coat and a protective mask against Covid-19, an eyewitness told Reuters.
Hearing for a new bail was set for June 6th.
The former First Lady is being tried for ordering the murder of her love rival Lipolelo Thabane, who was shot dead near her home in the country’s capital, Maseru, in June 2017.
She had been released on bail in February.
The deceased was estranged from Thomas Thabane, at the time of hee murder. The court heard.
The fallout of the case has caused immense political instability in the South African nation of 2 million people, which led to the resignation of former Thomas Thabane as Prime Minister, last month.
Thomas Thabane is also a suspect in the murder. He denied his involvement and is yet to be arrested and formerly charged.
