The famous artiste and recently turned preacher, Olubankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, has expressed his frustration at the spate of racism, murder, hatred, and genocide ongoing in the world despite the colossal losses being experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Wellington, a philanthropist and film actor, was particularly pained about the hate crimes in the USA and Nigeria, saying that he is tired of hearing the continuous news about these sad things happening on daily basis.
Banky W was exasperated at people who are only fund of talking about these things and mouthing correct condolences but who do virtually nothing to help the situation. Mr Wellington had said that he was compelled to participate in politics because of a passionate desire to directly contribute to making life better for all people. He, under the umbrella of Modern Democratic Party, MDP, contested for the position of a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly (N’Ass) against Babajide Obanikoro, (who is the first son of a former minister of state for defence under PDP government, Musiliu Obanikoro) of the APC and Omotosho Bakare of the PDP, for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos State.
Modern Democratic Party (MDP) was founded by some determined youths in 2017, spearheaded by Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a 29-year-old entrepreneur cum activist.
Olubankole Wellington, a media expert who is just a new entrant into politics, has shown to possess a unique personality that has exhibited the highest quality of decorum and decency. Despite it being his first time contesting in an election, he lost narrowly to the APC candidate.
“This world is exhausting. In America, it’s racism – white cops killing unarmed black people. In Nigeria, where we share the same skin colour, it’s tribalism & genocide. Every other week there’s another story of mass murder; Kaduna today, Jos tomorrow. So much hatred. I am tired. So much darkness. So much violence and hatred. We’ve heard of people being killed so much, we’ve become numb to it. Different day, different victims, same story, same hashtags. “Thoughts and Prayers for… (insert victim or city name).” Bad news everywhere, all the time. It’s exhausting. My only suggestion: please try and DO something to make your part of the world a little better. Be part of SOMETHING GOOD that is bigger than yourself. Volunteer, donate, serve. Do something. Anything. Please. DON’T JUST TWEET, don’t just talk! Do something!” Bankole Wellington exploded.
