A 71-year-old Coronavirus patient in Abia State, has recovered from the disease, according to the state government.
The patient was also said to be suffering from a heart disease.
The patient, a male was discharged from isolation at Federal Medical Center, Umuahia.
The condition of the patient made him a high risk and vulnerable case. But his recovery was seen as ‘miraculous. ‘
The commissioner for information, John Okiyi Kalu, disclosed the recovery in a statement on Thursday.
According to kalu, the state recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, 26th May, 2020, and an additional two on Wednesday, 27th May, 2020, bringing the total confirmed cases to 10 with 4 discharged.
He noted that the active cases in the isolation centre were clinically stable, adding that one of the newly confirmed cases escaped and was yet to be apprehended.
“Contact tracing has commenced for the new confirmed cases with samples collection ongoing while the private medical facility in Aba where one of them was previously being managed for other medical issues has been decontaminated and temporarily closed down.
“We are awaiting results for samples collected from contacts of the confirmed patients and will inform as appropriate when received.”
With proven cases of community transmission, the state government asked residents to take necessary measures to protect themselves.
“Our medical rapid response team will continue with ongoing case searches across the state while we await delivery of molecular testing equipment already paid for by the state.”
Kalu also urged residents not to stigmatize COVID-19 patients, as the disease was not a death sentence on anyone.
“Nobody in our state or country is responsible for the outbreak of the global pandemic.”
