Troops of 212 Battalion, Sector 1 of Operation LAFIYA DOLE on 17th May, 2020 successfully repelled BHT/ISWAP attack and killed several terrorists, recovering arms and ammunition at Gajigana in Nganzai LGA of Borno State. They had received credible intelligence information on BHT gathering and movement towards troops’ location at Gajigana, from Goni Usmanti Village in Nganzai Local Government Area.

The Air Task Force in response, called on its Attack Aircraft and Helicopter Gunships to provide Close Air Support and counteract the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in exchange of fire.

Observation by 7 Division Garrison, discovered one destroyed gun truck and two (2) abandoned gun trucks in a village called Mitturu. Among things recovered were two (2) AK-47 riffles, three (3) magazines, 36 rounds of 7.62 millimeter special ammunition, two 36 hand grenades and one LG3 bomb.

In a related development, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, on 18 May 2020 (yesterday), killed an unconfirmed number of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) and destroyed two (2) of their gun trucks on the outskirts of Dapchi, in Yobe State, following reports that BHT/ISWAP terrorists, in about 5 vehicles, had launched an attack on the town. A helicopter gunship was surmoned to engage the terrorists and hit target on their vehicles, destroying two (2) of them, killing all the occupants.

The sporadic incursions and victories by the Armed Forces against terrorists and bandits has attracted accolades from Nigerians, as some wonder why this intensity and energy was not applied before now.
