January or mid-season signings do not always deliver as much as summer or end of season signings do. But according to former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, out of the great players he signed during the January transfer window, his best was Kanu Nwankwo.
In a list that comprises the likes of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Andrey Arshavin, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Emmanuel Adebayor, Wenger has singled out the Nigerian as his best.
Kanu came to Arsenal from Inter Milan in the January of 1999, and played a a very pivotal role by scoring 6 times, and providing 2 assists in 12 appearances that season.
He went on to play for Arsenal, for 5 more years and was part of the 2004 Invincible side that went the whole season unbeaten.
When asked by beIN Sports about who was his best January signing, Wenger said, “Maybe (Nwankwo) Kanu. In the middle of the season. That had a big impact and he was a huge player.”
