Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have recorded a major success in their fight against armed banditry and terrorism within the Benue-Taraba-Nasarawa axis, even as they downed the number two most wanted criminal in Benue State, “Orjondu” as known as Terungwa Igbagwa, an extremely dangerous militia leader.
In a swift, well-coordinated operation, a tracking team of Operation WHIRL STROKE along with Special Forces troops of Sector 2 around Zaki-Biam, stormed Zaki-Biam and Katsina-Ala expressway in a surprise raid, killing Orjondu. The notorious kidnapper and armed robbery leader was also feared for his assassination and gun-running finesse around the Logo, Katsina-Ala, and Ukum Local Government Areas of Benue State.
During the raid, the joint operation team found an AK 47 Rifle, a locally fabricated rifle, one AK 47 magazine containing 30 rounds of 7.62mm special, as well as a few juju charms.
The Defence Headquarters in a press release yesterday, applauded Operation Whirl Stroke for their successes lately and urged the general public to continue to assist in providing support and information.
Operation WHIRL STROKE was launched exactly two years ago in May, 2018 in response to insecurity and loss of lives and properties caused by armed, troublesome nomadic herdsmen and militia groups in Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Zamfara States. Their operation commenced on 8th of May, 2018. The team consists of all the military services (Army, Air Force, Navy), the Nigeria Police, and the department of the State Security Services, alias “DSS”.
It should be recalled that in January this year, governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, had appealed to the Federal Government to not relent or pull out the Operation WHIRL STROKE but should rather intensify its aggression.
