COVID-19 Pandemic: Defence Headquarters Suspends Navy Training

The calendar upheaval of the year 2020 has started to rear its head as many scheduled events have had to be put off or postponed, as part of precautions to contain or prevent the spread of the virus. This has also affected employment endeavours in no small way.

The Defence Headquarters has announced on there website, the postponement of the training of the successful candidates screened in the 30th batch of the sailing arm of the Armed Forces of Nigeria via the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, NNBTS.

The statement read thus:

The Nigerian Navy has suspended the resumption for training of successful candidates of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) Batch 30. The candidates were initially scheduled to commence training at the NNBTS, Onne Port-Harcourt, Rivers State on 8 May 2020. However, this resumption date is no longer feasible in view of the current national efforts at containing the spread of COVID-19.

Such postponement may likely be first of many. Most Nursery & Primary Schools, as well as Secondary Schools or Colleges have had to resort to improvising through the use of electronic means like WhatsApp and related media, to teach and even test. Such improvisation became handy as the schedules for the calendar year continues to be constrained.
