Fruit-Ladden Truck Intercepted in Kwara with 50 People Hidden Inside

No less than 50 people were found hidden in a fruit-ladden lorry in Ilorin, Kwara State by men of the Nigeria Police.

The truck which was said to be from Zamfara State was intercepted at Oyun area close to Kulende junction, around Zango area of the state capital.

The 50 people were noticed when the truck broke down around the said area, and it was while they were trying to fix it that the attention of residents was drawn to the lorry.

A resident in the area who spoke to newsmen anonymously said,
“It was when the trailer stopped that we closely see that human beings were hidden inside the trailer under the planks.”

He also said that wood planks were well arranged atop the lorry with fruits laid over them, but underneath, there were people.

The State Police Command, through the Public Relations Officer, Kayode Okansanmi, when contacted said that they were aware of the incident as they had gotten prior intelligence of the truck.

Okasanmi said that the passengers said they were travelling to Ogbomoso to settle there, that they were coming, from Zamfara State.

He said,”Today, acting on an actionable intelligence, policemen from Kwara state police Command intercepted a Trailer loaded with supposed fruits but hidden beneath the fruits were women, men and young children totalling 50, being trafficked from Shinkafi in Zamfara state ..We have ordered the trailer to return to the boundary of Kwara and Niger state, for onward journey to where they came from”.
