Two Chinese Men Arrested in Zamfara for Illegal Mining

Two Chinese men have been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State for allegedly carrying out illegal mining activities.

The two men were nabbed on Monday, a year after the Federal Government banned all mining activities in the State in order to curtail the activities of bandits in the area.

Police spokesman Shehu Muhammad told journalists that the news of illegal mining operations in Kwali, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State had come to the police on 19th April, when they were told some Nigerians and foreigners were the culprits.

He said that the State Police Commissioner, Usman Nagogo led a special team to the area the next day to investigate.

“The information proved to be credible one as hundreds of miners scattered as soon as they saw the team. Two labourers were, however, arrested who confirmed the presence of Chinese and Burkina Faso nationals among others.

“On 25th April, 2020 information had it that Chinese and Bulkinabe nationals were taking shelter somewhere in Nasarawa Burkullu. And on 26th April, 2020 the Commissioner of Police led another team to the same village where two Chinese nationals were seen with all the chemicals necessary for making gold,” Mr Shehu added.

The two Chinese crimiihave been identified as Mr. Chun and Mr. Wang, whom according to the Police, are still being interrogated.
