A jailbreak was attempted by inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sapele, Delta State on Monday before it was found out by prison officers, the Nigeria Police and the DSS.
It was gathered that the prisoners tried to escape as a result of maltreatment of inmates which includes lack of food and water supplies.
Before the prison break was foiled, the inmates set the facility on fire while they tried to escape their respective cells.
The fire service came in handy in trying to put out the fire while combined efforts from the security forces on ground synergised to make sure the now loose inmates did no escape.
However, as at the time of filing this report, the number of damages, both human and infrastructural could not be ascertained.
