The Nigeria Police said a total of 1,736 violators of the presidential lockdown directive have been convicted so far out of the 1,909 suspects arraigned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.This was disclosed by the FCT commissioner of Police, CP. Bala Ciroma, while giving an update on the enforcement of the presidential lockdown order.
He added that 13 mobile courts were set up, 145 suspected violators discharged while 28 cases were adjourned.
He explained that the convicted violators were sentenced to community service or asked to pay a fine.
He also urged traditional, religious and community leaders to complement government’s effort to contain the spread of the Coronavirus by using their influence to educate and enlighten people on the need to observe the presidential lockdown order.
