Maker of Tom and Jerry Cartoon Dies at 95

Gene Deitch, the man who made the childhoods of many children growing up in the 90’s awesome, by creating Tom and Jerry, has died aged 95.

Deitch died on 16th April, 2020, in his home in Prague, Czech Republic, his publisher, Petr Himmel said, adding that he passed ‘unexpectedly’. Before his passing, he had complained of intestinal problems.

Gene’s other animated works were Popeye, Tom Terrific, Munro, and Nudnik.

Born Eugene Merrill Deitch, he also served in the United States Military, as a pilot.

He also made Popeye.

Gene is survived by his wife and three sons from his first marriage.

Many fans have expressed their sympathies on his passing while being grateful to him for making their childhoods awesome.
