Five Ondo Farm Settlements Set Ablaze by Suspected Fulani Herdsmen

Five farm settlements were on Sunday set ablaze in the Ala area of Akure North Local Government of Ondo State by suspected Fulani terrorists.

Sources said the herdsmen attacked and destroyed the farm house and property at night while the residents were sleeping.

It was gathered that there was a disagreement between the herdsmen and farmers following the destruction of their farms.

The incident resulted in a serious disagreement between the herdsmen and the farmers who were not happy about the destruction of their properties carried out by the herders. To make matters worse, the herdsmen set the farm houses owned by the farmers on fire.

Some of the communities torched included Adejubu, Adewole, Olotin, Olondan, Jojo, all in the Akure North Local Government Area of state.

A resident of the community who spoke with newsmen confirmed that many farmers and their family members have been rendered homeless by the herdsmen.

He said most of the residents escaped from being hurt or killed due to the alarm raised by some affected residents.

According to the source, the herdsmen who invaded the settlements were on reprisal, adding that residents of the affected communities had earlier stopped the herdsmen from grazing on their farmland.

Mr. Tee-Leo Okoro, the police Public Relations Officer, when he was contacted, said he was not aware of the incident.
