Two checkpoints in Enugu State have been attacked by an armed (armed with knives) robbery gang, making away with some AK-47 rifles.
It was gathered that the robbers who came in a ‘keke’, stabbed three policemen and also burnt their patrol vehicle.
The incident occurred along Enugu-Nsukka Road by Ugwuojo Nike on Tuesday, while the partial lockdown was being enforced in to state.
The robbers came dressed in black, and first attacked a checkpoint at Ekwegbe, where one Inspector James was stabbed in the chest.
When they got to the next checkpoint along Enugu-Nsukka Road, where men of the Federal Safer Highway team mounted road blocks, the hoodlums reportedly attacked two other policemen with knives and snatched their guns from them.
A source said the incident which took place on Tuesday, affected the Federal Safer Highway team comprising of four policemen, two of whom were attacked while they were sleeping.
Efforts to get comments from the State Police Division failed, as none of the people contacted via calls and text messages responded.
