There has been news making the rounds that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), have spent about N1 billion on text messages alone, in trying to inform Nigerians about the happenings during this Coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, many Nigerians have taken to Twitter, Facebook and other mainstream social media outlets to express their outrage on the matter.
But the NCDC have come out to quash such allegations, tagging the claims as fake, via its Twitter handle. Adding that texting or informing Nigerians have largely been made possible by the trio of MTN Nigeria, Glo Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria.
The tweet read:
The headline claiming that NCDC has spent N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians is FALSE
While communication through SMS is a key part of our #COVID19 response strategy, this has been largely provided as in-kind support by @AirtelNigeria @MTNNG @GloWorld.
