US Lists Conditions for Citizens Seeking Evacuation from Nigeria

The government of the United State has made known the conditions to be met before her citizens, trapped in Covid-19 lockdown in Nigeria can be evacuated.

One of such is that, those seeking evacuation would bear the cost of their medical bills. They were also told that US hospitals are overwhelmed due to increasing cases of Covid-19.

The statement further states that, fhe country is experiencing acute shortage of basic supplies due to the shutdowns.

It also called on potential evacuees to make provision for their accommodation upon arrival.

“This is a self-funded, one-way flight to a single destination in the United States. All passengers must sign a promissory note and repay the full cost of their seat(s)

“In addition, travelers are responsible for organizing and funding any travel to their final destination in the United States, all living expenses while in the United States, and any return travel to Nigeria. Evacuation flights can range between $1,300 and $2,400 per person.

“At this time, Nigerian airports are closed to all commercial international flights. If you evacuate to the United States, it is unlikely you will be able to return to Nigeria until the Nigerian government reopens the airports and commercial flights resume,” the statement read.

A flight scheduled to depart the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos with American evacuees was not cleared to take off, due to the shutdown of airspaces in certain countries due to the pandemic.
