Bandits Kill 16 in Zamfara Fresh Attacks

Bandits have again killed 16 people in two communities of the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The affected communities are Malele and Babban Kwari villages all in Maru Local Government Area of the state where eight persons were killed in each of the villages.

The bandits, according to Mallam Shehu Malele, invaded the two villages where they were engaged in a fight with the villagers who tried to defend themselves.

Malele said, “The bandits who were on motorcycles first entered Malele village where they killed eight people and destroyed two vehicles and three motorcycles.

“After they attacked Malele village, they also moved to Babban Kwari village where they also killed another eight people, and carted away animals and food items.”

Those killed and had been buried, according to Shehu are, Mamuda Maharazu, Muazu Baushi, Muhammadu Daura, Sani Mutunji, Maiunguwa Ande Babban-Kwari and Bukar Idi.

Others are an Ibo man, Friday Godi, Sirajo Manu, Nafiu Malele, Nura Kurma, Rabiu Mahalo and Dantani Sani.

The rest are, Mallam Usman Babban-Kwari, Mallam Murtala Babban-Kwari, Kabiru Babban-Kwari and Fatima Dantsoho.

Speaking with newsmen on the issue, the state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, said, “We only got the report of the killing of seven people from Malele village as reported by the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Husaini Umar.”

Dauran said he was waiting for the report from the people of Babban-Kwari village.

He however maintained that the problem was caused by some bandits who came from the neighbouring states of Kebbi, Niger and Kaduna.

“We have already mobilized the security personnel to arrest the criminals and bring them to justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Bello Matawalle has threatened to take military action against bandits who refused to embrace the peace process the state initiated.

The governor also expressed worry over the recent killing of innocent people in the state by bandits, assuring the people that “he would soon end the menace.”

Matawalle said this in a statement issued by his Director General, Media and Communication, Mallam Yusuf Idris, on Thursday.

“Governor Matawalle vowed to flush out all the remaining criminal elements in Zamfara State and its environs as his administration will not accept any breach of the peace being enjoyed.

 “The governor has also resolved to take military action against the bandits following the security meeting he attended alongside his colleagues from North-West in Kaduna,” said Idris.
