Despite the raging Coronavirus pandemic which has caused the closure or suspension of many sporting events across the globe, Nigeria’s under 17 women’s team took nothing for granted, when they spanked their Guinea counterparts 5:1 at the Agege Stadium on Saturday.
The Nigerian side had won the first leg 1:6 in Conakry and here, they made sure the bragging rights were theirs in the second leg too after convincingly beating the visitors. Taiwo Lawal grabbed a first half brace after Rofiat Imuran had opened the scoring. However, the visitors pulled one back in the second half, through Diallo Dede after Chidinma Ogbuchi handled the ball in the box. Minutes later, Nigeria’s Alvine Dah-Zossu made it 4:1, before Chinyere Kalu made it 5:1 at the death.
They now progress to the next round of the competition with an 11:2 aggregate.
The Bankole Olowokere tutored Flamingos will next face Ghana in another two legged home and away encounter. The Nigeria versus Ghana double header will take place in May. Flamingos are eyeing a ticket to the FIFA U-17 women’s world cup billed for India in November this year.
