President Buhari Laments over 2007 Presidential Election Judgement

President Muhammedu Buhari has lamented over the Supreme Court judgement of the 2007 Presidential Election. He made this known through his letter on 9th March 2020, congratulating Justice George Adesola Oguntade at his 80th Birthday.

The President said that the 2007 Presidential Election was “disorderly, chaotic and badly manipulated” yet the Supreme Court upheld the election. He said that even Late President Yar’Adua who was declared winner also agreed that the process was highly flawed. “I will never forget my legal challenge of the Presidential Election in 2007 ” he said.

On the other hand, President Buhari has described Justice George Adsola Oguntade as a “man with courage of his conviction, a jurist of the Puritan kind and a great Patriot” who distinguished himself in the 2007 Presidential Election.

He said that Justice Oguntade maintained that the election should be nullified for not compling with the Electral Act. That he was one of the three justices that stood against other four that upheld the election.

The President wished Oguntade good health, long life and increase of the Oguntade clan.
