Just In: Kano Lawmakers Disagree Over Sanusi’s Removal, Mace Snatched.

A group, had on Wednesday last week, submitted a petition asking for the removal of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido over breach of culture and traditions of the state.

At the moment, the Kano State House of Assembly is in disarray over the petition.

It all began when the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdulaziz Gafasa, went ahead to set up a committee headed by Deputy speaker, Hamisu Chidari, to investigate the report and turn in a report within a week, without first reading the exact content of the petition.

And as it happened today, Monday 9th March, when the Deputy Speaker sought the go-ahead to present the report, the House descended into chaos.

As members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party insisted that the report must be delayed till Tuesday for further investigation, the session went wild and the mace snatched by a member representing Warawa Constituency.

Insiders said there are strong indications that the emir could be removed any moment from now, either after receiving the report of the House or that of the state anti-graft agency.
